ABOUT TEMECULA ADVANTAGE VIRTUAL SCHOOL

Temecula Advantage Virtual School is a tuition-free, public school from Temecula Valley USD.  The school insures the highest level of individualized attention to learning. Advantage Virtual School is approved by the University of California and the NCAA as an online course provider for college-bound students.

 

Our interactive online curriculum and face-to-face support model is available to students in Southern California. Current TVUSD students seeking a full-time online school program, (in-district) home-school families looking for college preparatory options, and/or students qualifying for inter-district transfers from Riverside, Imperial, Orange, San Diego, and San Bernardino counties may submit an application to Advantage any time.

Temecula Advantage Virtual School was established in 2012 to provide an alternative blended educational opportunity for students in Temecula Valley and adjacent counties. Temecula Advantage grew out of our Independent Study School, Susan H. Nelson.  We have student in grades 6-12 housed in the Sparkman Alternative Education center with in Temecula Valley USD.  Advantage continues to grow and accepts all students within the Riverside, San Diego, Orange, San Bernardino, and Imperial Counties. 

Our independent study/personalized learning high school program requires students and their support person (usually a parent or guardian) to meet (online or in person) with their California Credentialed Teacher once a week for approximately 90 minutes. During this meeting, students share their coursework with their Supervisory Teacher.

STUDENT ACADEMIC SUPPORT:

Advantage offers a variety of supports to help students succeed in their coursework.  Teachers use the latest technologies and online tools insure student learning. Some of the courses may require weekly attendance of a workshop in addition to the weekly meeting with the Supervisory Teacher. These may include several of our math classes, Spanish 1, Biology Lab, Chemistry Lab, and Certificate courses.

Additional supports include Highly Qualified Teacher office hours, math tutoring, and access to our resource center staffed by credentialed teachers.  Highly Qualified Teacher office hours are available for students who need additional support in Language Arts, Math, Social Science, and Science coursework.

Advantage provides leadership and community outreach opportunities through ASB and clubs. Students are encouraged to create social spaces that support diversity in learning. College and career opportunities are supported and nurtured at Advantage Virtual through planning and course work certifications.  College visitations are scheduled to supply students with the understanding of their local options.

CURRICULUM OPTIONS:

Temecula Advantage Virtual School  (TAVS) offers varied learning solutions for students. These include;

Online blended based: All of the core courses are UC/a-g approved. The online-based curriculum is rigorous and aligned to the California State and district Standards. All curriculum materials are provided to the student. Publishers may include APEX Learning, Odyssey Ware, and Teacher Created courses.

Synchronous Classes – Teachers at TAVS can offers  support to students via on communication tools (Hangouts/ phone) during school hours. Students may attend sessions and receive direct instruction from one of our Highly Qualified Teachers. With small classes of less than 15 students, every student has a chance to participate. Students who cannot physically come to the class can participate virtually from their own home.

Textbook based courses- Most courses are UC/a-g approved. The test book curriculum is comprised of standards-based instructional content specifically developed for self study delivery, with assessments integrated throughout and scaffolding to support learning for all levels of students.

Advanced Placement (AP) online courses- All courses are UC/a-g approved. The AP digital curriculum helps to ensure students are well prepared to succeed on the critical AP exams and are authorized by the College Board AP Course Audit.

Credit Recovery Online Courses are crafted to keep students on task and moving forward, utilizing a online learning to support choice and increase retention.
